Syncrude Canada - Mildred Lake, Alberta
Key Challenge
At its UE-1 coker expansion at Mildred Lake, Alberta, Syncrude Canada is required to meet the highest standards for both SO2 and ammonia emissions control.
Solution
Marsulex provided a package of technology and services and owns and operates a portion of the environmental compliance facilities at the Mildred Lake site. The system incorporates the Company’s proprietary ammonium sulphate scrubbing technology and utilizes a waste ammonia stream to scrub emissions, including SO2, which will be reduced by 95%. The process creates high quality granular ammonium sulphate fertilizer as a value added by-product.
Result
Marsulex completed construction of its portion of the compliance facilities in 2003. The facility was commissioned in mid-2006 upon completion and start-up of the overall UE-1 project. |
