Shajiao Power Plant Unit 5A
- China
Key Challenge
The Shajiao Power Plant in Guangdong
Province, China, wanted to reduce SO2 emissions,
reheat discharge gases before release to the atmosphere,
and create a commercially saleable by-product of
the scrubbing process.
Solution
Marsulex designed a system using
our limestone/gypsum flue gas desulphurization
(FGD) technology. The system utilizes pulverized
limestone that is locally plentiful and inexpensive.
Marsulex scrubber technology is used to absorb
SO2 from combustion gases, and our gypsum
technology is used to produce the required by-product.
Results
- The project was completed on schedule.
- SO2 emissions have
been reduced by 95% and discharge gases are being
reheated to 80 degrees Celsius, enhancing plume
buoyancy.
- Operating costs are low due to
plentiful, inexpensive limestone.
- Saleable by-product is used by
the building materials industry, eliminating
landfill requirements for alternatives.
