Sulfur Prilling for Oil Refineries – Southern
British Columbia; Washington State
Key Challenge
These refineries produce molten sulfur
as a by-product of their clean fuel products operations.
Because of insufficient regional demand for the by-product
and limited storage, it must be removed on a consistent
and uninterrupted basis to avoid any impact on the
refineries’ core operations.
Solution
Molten sulfur is transported to the
Marsulex facility in Mount Vernon, Washington where it is converted into
solid spherical shapes called “prills.” The
prilled sulfur is marketed into the international
market and shipped by vessel around the globe.
Result
- Refiners have a dependable and
reliable service that enables them to achieve uninterrupted
refinery operations.
- Economies of scale achieved by servicing multiple
sources maximize refiners’ by-product value.
