Industrial Services Group

Industrial Services provides services, including environmental compliance solutions, to oil refiners and other industrial customers, primarily in the US and Canada. Services include the regeneration of spent sulphuric acid produced during the octane enhancement of gasoline, the extraction and recovery of sulphur from hydrogen sulphide gas created during the refining process, the recovery of sulphur dioxide to ensure air quality compliance, cutting and handling of petroleum coke (“petcoke”), and the safe handling, treatment, and disposal of industrial hazardous waste streams.

Refinery Services

Marsulex provides regeneration of alkylation spent acid (sulphuric acid contaminated during the production of alkylate, a high octane component of gasoline and key to clean fuels programs), acid gas (H2S) processing, and capturing and conversion of residual emissions of sulphur dioxide gas (tail gas) from sulphur recovery processes. We also convert molten sulphur from oil refineries into prilled sulphur, a granular product suitable for offshore markets, as well as provide petcoke cutting and bulk handling services.

Hazardous Waste

The Stablex operation, based in Blainville, Quebec, uses a unique technology to treat and stabilize inorganic industrial hazardous wastes and contaminated soils.  The process consists of making contaminants insoluble in the environment by using a chemical treatment followed by stabilization and solidification processes before disposal of the product in a dedicated secure placement cell.

Strong customer relationships

• For over 45 years Marsulex has provided the Shell and Petro-Canada oil refineries in Montreal with dedicated sulphur emission control under long-term outsourcing agreements.
• Marsulex's Toledo, Ohio facility has provided acid gas (H2S) processing and alkylation spent acid regeneration services to BP for over 35 years and regeneration services to Sunoco, Marathon-Ashland and others for 30 years.
• Marsulex designed, built and owns a sulphur recovery facility at the BP refinery in Whiting, IN that provides a fully redundant tail gas recovery system.
• Marsulex owns and operates a facility at Mount Vernon, WA converting molten sulphur from BP, ConocoPhillips, Shell, Tesoro, ChevronTexaco and other west coast oil refineries into a formed product for offshore shipment.
• Marsulex provides in-refinery petcoke services to oil refineries on the US Gulf Coast owned by ExxonMobil, Valero, Motiva, Marathon and Flint Hills, and by Tesoro in Wilmington, CA.
